Interactive Semaphore - Devon Army Cadet Forces (2024)

A heavy animation project for Devon Army Cadet Forces. Interactive instruction assets that will allow you to craft your own words using the method of communication, flag semaphore.

This is used to instruct to help cadets, children whom are 12-17 years old, on the technique of semaphore. The interactiveness and artstyle of the project help young people learn this memory intensive method of communication. It also allows to multiple usages (games & demonstrations).

Due to the nature of flag semaphore, the one letter is spelled after another (A-B, C-Z, D-rest, Numerial-1(A), Attention-Rest), therefore, this results in over 700 different and unique combinations. Thus, animation for transitioning from one letter pose to another will require its own individual animation.

The art is also used for a pocket-sized printable semaphore guide for cadets and adults to use. The download is below.

The animation is done in twos, at 12 frames per second. It is done in Clip Studio Paint.

“Niska-Shel Mk. XXI Tortoise” Interactive Car (2022)

A creative university project. Interactive website that allows you to give this weird-looking armoured fighting vehicle different actions on demand.

Niska-Shel Mk. XX Tortoise is a half-tracked-half-propeller armoured fighting vehicle boasting 104mm high-velocity gun. The turtle shell addresses major weakness of armoured vehicles being their rear. Despite the massive shell, it can reach impressive top speed of 54 m/h on-road and 43 m/h off-road. It is capable of holding 3 crew with living quarters inside for all of them.

I was responsible for all design, animation and colour. The scripting for the website is pre-made by the lecturer of the university course.

The animation and art was done within Clip Studio Paint. The thumbnail editing was done in Adobe Premiere Pro. The animation is in threes, running at 8 frames per second.

Ryō Nami-ryū - “Conflict of Character” (2020-2021)

A Game University Project and also my first animation within the UK. Primitive website-based fighting game consisting of multiple characters from designed by everyone in the year group.

Ryō Nami-ryū or 漁波龍 (Wave-dragon) is one of the game characters of a primitive fighting game “Conflict of Characters.” He is the daimyo of the Ryō clan during the peaceful Edo period under the Tokugawa Shogunate. The clan was filled of the Shogunate’s gigantic extraordinary supernatural organic and non-organic creatures and machines that are stationed off the Southern Coast of Kyushu.

This was quite a big project in various field of illustration from physical clay sculpting to thumbnail and box designing to short comic strips to animation. The animation part of this project is the final and really shine through in my characters. The character design was all done by me, same with all animation above. Both walking and 360° were done as animation exercise and the final being the game animation. You can play the game yourself below.

All of the artwork and animation was done in both Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Photoshop. The editing for  360°  character was done in Adobe Premiere Pro. The animation runs at extremely different frame per second ranging from just 8 fps to 20 fps.
